Tiger pitchers came unprepared for the Yankee onslaught, Tuesday night, as they fell 13-4. The New York Yankees were pacing themselves by scoring multiple runs in every other inning. In the 1st, the Yankees got off to a big start with a two run, home run and another run off of a sac fly. The Yankees added four more runs in the 3rd, and two runs in both the 5th and the 7th.

Tiger batters weren’t nearly as productive. Four hard hit balls got things going in the 3rd, but the Tigers settled for just one run when an Ian Kinsler double scored James McCann. Yankee starter, Masahiro Tanaka, would face the minimum amount of Tiger batters in the 4th, 5th and 6th, but the Tigers would get things going again in the 7th. John Hicks doubled to left and Nick Castellanos would follow up with a home run to right, scoring two. The Tigers trailed the Yankees, after seven, 11-3. The Yankees weren’t done with their every other inning scoring. In the 9th, a two run shot would give the Yanks the double digit lead, 13-3.

This game wasn’t completely devoid of magic for the Tigers, however. In the bottom of the 9th, on two outs, Nick Castellanos tacked on an inside the park, home run. Scoring would stop there, 13-4.

Matt Boyd left the game after pitching just three and a third innings. He was chased off the mound after giving up seven earned runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Along with the lopsided score, the Yankees outhit the Tigers, sixteen to eight.

The Tigers play game two, in their three game series with the Yankees, Wednesday night. Jordan Zimmerman(7-10  5.87 ERA) will start. The Yankees will send out Luis Severino(10-5  3.18 ERA). Our coverage begins at 6:45 on 95.3 WBCK.
